Meets DJ Maily, One of ABC "Exceptional" Individuals

PHNOM PENH: As Season 2 “The Exceptional” presented by ABC approaches the finale this 16 December 2022, EAC News sits down to get to know the 10 exceptional individuals.

Khun Vatheanith, better known as DJ Maily, made a splash after winning the First Pioneer Digital Battle in 2014. The iconic female DJ’s passion for music and creating a buzz on the dancefloor has seen her make a big name for herself on the regional music circuit, and has crowned her 'Cambodia’s Queen of Clubbing.'

DJ Maily told EAC News that she was surprised but very happy to be selected and appreciated the opportunity to join other talented candidates in this season 2 “The Exceptional” campaign. Although it was tiring to participate in the campaign at times, she still thought it was fun and a worthwhile learning experience from other inspiring candidates.

She had never thought she was an exceptional individual although she has shared the stage with famous international DJs and represented Cambodia in the international DJ competition and won. All she has done thus far is trying her best in every situation. She appreciated that ABC has created this campaign to recognize talented and inspiring people. It has been an honor to be selected.

She said, “I believe being ‘exceptional’ is to strive to be your best and always do what you can to get better. They do things above and beyond which can inspire others to dream bigger and do better too. Exceptional people stand out from the crowd as a result of their hard work, commitment, and efforts. It’s great that ABC has this campaign to recognize those talented people that stand out. It’s been an honor to be selected and participate in this campaign.”

The biggest lesson she has learned in her career that she would like to share with the younger generations is to start the journey toward their dream now and do not mind other people’s opinions.

She said, “It takes time, and it starts with the first step of getting started. You will learn things along the way that you didn’t know you needed to learn, but you won’t know these things until you start your journey. Never stop learning, and always work on improving yourself and your life. Progression is key. It’s important that you do what you love in life [regardless of other people’s opinions].”

If DJ Maily is selected to receive the $20,000, she would like to donate half to charities that are dear to her heart such as Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation, Raksa Koma Foundation, and Dirty Paws Kampot, which is managed by a fellow female DJ, Marie Thach. The other half, DJ Maily would like to use it to invest in her career by improving her skills and producing original music.
